I'm using 20mm spacers front and rear with the original 17" turbo twist wheels. I purchased the spacers thru ECS, they came with the correct length longer bolts.

Could you possibly post some pics of the 17+spacers? I'm interested in this route myself.

Why spacers? I have the 17 inch turbo twist offset, with no need for spacers..

For looks mostly moves the wheels and tires out gives the car a broader stance.

As Cunningr said, for looks, they fill out the wheel wells.
They also add a few IHP.

IHP = Imagined Horse Power
