I have the same problem under development. Easy shifting between 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, to get into 5th I have to give an extra push, and then easy shifting between 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, but extra push needed to shift down into 1st or 2nd.

Like you, I have an extra set of used shifter cables sitting on the shelf in case!
