sales question
If I place an order in month A, and the car is delivered in month B, does the dealer report the sale in month A or month B?
|
I think a sale is reported when the car is paid for. And the title transfered.
|
Okay, let me clarify. When I said "dealer reports the sale", I'm talking about which month he reports the sale to PCNA. Dealers and salesmen have monthly quotas, and I need to know in which month the dealer gets internal credit for the sale.
|
Yep, that's why they are pushing hard the last week of the month.

Apparently my question is still not clear, so I'll go at it a different way.
Everyone knows that the best time to work a deal is in the last couple days of the month, because the dealer is desperate to make his sales numbers. But I am not buying the car off the lot, I am ORDERING it. So my question (again) is, does the order count as a sale in THAT month (I believe it does), and is he therefore under the same pressure to deal as he would be if I were buying a car from his existing inventory? Please, no guesses. I need a 100% certain answer, preferably from someone who has experience in new auto sales. |
Yes, Dbth, speaks the truth in his post above.
I ordered my car in August of 2005 and took delivery in March of 2006. The car actually came in early, in February. They would have loved for me to take delivery in February, but, the deal I negotiated was delivery in March. I paid for the car and took delivery the last Monday of March 2006. |
BMU is right. The deal is done when the car is sold, ie registered and delivered.
