For folks who have painted your calipers...
How long does the whole process take? As my car is in an underground manhattan parking garage, there's no way I can paint my calipers there. Was wondering if I took it to a friends' house, how long it would take for the paint to dry, apply a second coat, apply the decals and then a coat of clearcoat. Could I do this in one day, or is it a 2 day job? Thanks in advance.

you can do it in a few hours, my whole process took about 2-3 hours. i did paint the calipers before i received the decals (some mixup). so then when they did show up it was a matter of taking the wheel off and putting a decal on.
just make sure you take ur time cleaning them, if they are not clean paint will not stick good, thats the key here.
the way tht i did my caliers was lift up the front end, take wheel off, clean and paint one coat, then move on to the other side and do the same, then i went back and did the 2nd coat on 1st wheel, waited a few mins for the other side to dry and put a 2nd coat on that side, put the wheels and and repeated the process for the rear calipers.
and yes, you can put the wheels back one the car while the calipers are still 'wet', just make sure you dont touch them with the wheel or somethign else.
i did mine with the caliper paint kit from Murrays (also at autozone) and i tought at first that it wont be enough, but i did 5 cars so far, 2 coats per caliper per car, and still have majority of paint left. it somes with a calipers cleaner spray, and brush and instructions. i got a diff brush couse that was a cheap one to be honest.
paint held up good on all cars, no chips yet either, and if there is to be any chips its easy to touch it up if you got a brush on method going, couse u can just touch up the chip versus masking off the whole caliper and go trough the whole prcedure again.
also, i didnt mask off anythign pretty much, no drips or spills for me, so
good luck

Check ohio's thread about it, its pretty good, and ive got some pictures on there. Basically, it took me an hour and a half, but you gotta wait a day for it to cure before you drive it. Or at least your supposed to (I waited).

I used 3 coats of paint by brush (duplicolor) then sprayed with high temp clear coat. I took my time to do everything and spent lots of time cleaning the calipers. I suggest that you budget one day for the 4 calipers, so you don't rush. It makes a huge diff with red calipers. They look very nice and professional after you put decals from xenonmods.com.

hey boxtaboy,
it takes maybe 3 hours for the paint to set. don't forget one thing.....you paint the first caliper, and you can put the rim back on and continue to the second and so on...... the caliper does not touch the inside of the rim. painting is quick. just waiting for paint to set.
