I used 3/4 in and worked just fine. I just sealed with black rtv silicone. Looks good it’ll make good bass, you’re on the right track.

Thanks i cleaned up the edges some more after the pic, just wanted a feel good check on the clearence.

I plan on opening the back of the box up and adding something to block the port passage.

Will use some thin foam between the speaker and box. I have resin and polyglass to bond the adaptor ring into the box and fill up the gaps. The other speaker droped in like a glove.

Hi.
I just did new enclosures for my '98 Boxster.
Based on original Bose, I removed front panel, and replaced it with 10mm wood pannel with additional 10mm wood ring.
First I sealed the box because it was leaky:

Then new front construction:

Finally doors closed and looks as original one:

Next part will be midrange and tweeter new mounting panels.

Wolf nice looking mod, i am going to open up the back of mine cause they are the small nokia. I did not know you could remove the speaker grills from the door panels.

Are those morels? I ordered a new dash grill cover, and a mount kit from cai for the mid and tweeters. Also have a passenger 996 footwell sub, may end up sealing and trying to fit a 8” sub.

Better change boxes to Bose, they have about 5L volume, which is enough for most of 5"speakers. Proper speakers will gave you good, quite deep bass and great dynamic. The only problem is that you will need to change whole door internal sound proofing foam.
My speakers are Dynaudio MW152, and they are great.
Short YouTube video from first listening (I know, YouTube will not give you real experience )

Nice. I would recommend some foam rings between door card and speaker housing.

Something like this:

So the soundwaves don't go in there. Hope you understand what i mean. Sometimes it's difficult to describe technical things in english.

In my opinion, it will be better to use Bose enclosures because they have about 5L volume which outs enough for most 5"speakers. My ones are working really well in those 5liters.

If you plan to open you're boxes, then it will be better to build new mounting panel from scratch and use 165mm speakers.
