Do cars have personalities?
I think they do. Or, they should, anyway. Here's my list:
2004 Porsche Boxster – Ballet Dancer
2004 Subaru STI – Street Brawler
1995 BMW M3 – Playboy
2000 Mazda Miata – Cheerleader
1972 BMW 2002 – Pool Shark
1987 Toyota Tercel – No discernable personality whatsoever
1988 Honda Accord – Accountant
1972 VW Bus – Beach Bum
1972 Fiat 850 Spider – Hitchhiker
1980 Datsun B210 – Shaggy Dog

P-cars do not have 'personalities'. They have idiosyncrasies that we learn to live with.

Well, as we all know: the 986 Boxster is a male hair dressers car.  
And maybe male hair dressers often would like to be ballet dancers. So you may be right on that.
In my opinion the 986 has more a female than a male character. But it's not a lovely sweet girl; it's an alpha female that likes to show claws.
Note to myself: Maybe i have to buy myself a Jaguar.

I know that many women I have met name their cars based on their personalities. Obvious ones are like the girl I knew that had a yellow Bug that she called sunshine. One of my girl friends calls her gray Ford Edge "Pat" named after the SNL character that did not know if its a man or woman as a gray Edge just has no idea what it actually is.

No but, we as humans attribute personalities to them. My Boxster S, is sometimes
a b@$@h and sometimes an angel. I call her Sam, short for Samantha my favorite
TV witch. But generally, I call her money pit. There's always something that needs
fixing or replacing.

Don't think in terms of personality but I do thank my boxster for getting me home when I pull it into the garage after a long drive
I guess that's projecting humanity onto a machine.

I don’t prescribe personalities, genders or names to my cars or bikes, but I do have an affinity for motorized vehicles. I admit to talking to them and forming bonds with them.
While helping my friend kickstart his stunningly restored, recently acquired ‘69 Triumph Bonneville in his 35 degree garage, his wife observed of me, “you’re talking to it”. I told her “you bet I am, how else do you think I’m going to convince it to start?”
