Driver side window seal?

Hey guys!

Dumb question time..... I just replaced my window regulator.... But am Still trying to get the window set correctly...... I noticed with the old regulator.... And the new one the outside window molding gets "sucked in" the door when you put the window down....slowing the window and stressing the motor.....

Is this a window fitment issue... Or is the molding shot?

If I have to replace the outside molding (window seal?) where can I get one? I think
Pelican may have the correct one.... But it is over $200.... I can't see buying a used one, (if I can find one!) that may be in worse shape then my OEM....

Dumb idea.... Has anyone tried "trimming" the seal to keep it from binding?

Thanks!
Fred

Hi Fred,
So I understand, the outside scraper seal (horizontal) is binding the window? Sounds like there's too much friction on the inner side (should be soft felt). It may need to be cleaned to get it right again, same for the glass.

Woody likely has a good used seal in his inventory, I would imagine.

How does the molding look? Is it not fully seated? I've had most of the 'common Boxster problems' on my cars and haven't had this one.
Did you adjust the regulator after installing it? Look at the last step in the Pelican Parts tech article:

If the window is at the wrong angle, it will bind on the seals. Did you mark the locations of the original before you pulled it out? Try loosening the bottom connections and the pinch clamps. Then finesse it a bit and see if it helps. Did you have the same problem before the part swap? Did you get the stops in the right locations? I had a small learning curve until I got it right.

I was having this issue on my '99. I was recommended to try "GUMMI PFLEGE STIFT". I tracked some down and applied it to the rubber seals and it solved the issue for me. Give it a try.

Hey Guys!

Thanks for all the replys! The outer seal did bind and "suck in" the door with both the old regulator and the new one.... I did mark the window with blue tape and cleaned the window when I Had it out... But stupidly forgot to mark the regulator bases with a sharpie before I pulled them out..... Maybe I'll pull the window agin and clean the seals..... Couldn't hurt I Guess!

I'll pick up a tube of Gummi Pflege Stift..... Just because.... It is funny!!!

Thanks Guys!

The bottom location is really important. A small adjustment either way is magnified at the top of window travel. Think teeter-totter with the window sill as the pivot point.
