A 2000 Audi A4 1.8. Four cylinder 20 valve engine without turbo. 125 bhp, so it was slow, but at least it was thirsty. Back seat was quite uncomfortable on long trips. Sure it was reliable, but also boring.
In size it was quite similar to the current family car, a 2010 VW Golf Variant (estate) with a 122 bhp 1.4 liter turbo engine. Much more pleasant to drive, way better fuel economy and no problem to go on a 3500 mile (5600 km) tour through Europe with kids.
