Everyone blames all electrical gremlins on the headlight switch... so long as there aren’t any popped fuses, that is.

Manual or tip? Probably the transmission reverse switch.

Sorry, it's a manual. I guess my first step is to locate the fuse. I know where the panels are, just don't know which fuse to pull.

Sorry for the dump question but you have checked the light bulbs first right?

Hi Woody, I figured where both were out; they were fine. Any idea what # the fuse is? Thanks.

Try B5. Second row down, fifth from the left. 7.5A.

7.5 has continuity. Where is the switch? Is it easily accessible? My friend has my book and is away.

I think I found it. At the far end of the housing (at back of car), on top. There are two wires going in. I did have a new muffler put on, maybe it just needs a little cleaning.
Hopefully the two wires just pop off. Regarding the switch, do I just unscrew and pop in new or are there springs or something else that complicate the matter?
Thanks.

Ok it's out. See attached. Is there a Vw replacement or something I can get at autoZone that will work ok? I seem to be see prices of 50 plus. I'll pay it but maybe there is an alternative. I just dropped 180 for a piece of plastic (rear under panel) from our host so I need to start saving $ if possible. Thanks.

I think I read that the transmission is Audi, but don't quote me. What does the connector look like?

They do look similar...

Just bought switch. 75 big ones @ stealer ship. The other places weren't much better once you add in shipping.
This might be the final transaction to sour my Porsche relationship. I get some of the stuff being expensive but this is ridiculous. I'm semi ok with the 170 for the plastic underbody panel, thinking it probably only fits 986's, maybe some 996's. I can't imagine that switch is only used by Porsche.
I'll certainly be thinking about this fleecing over the winter.
:ah:

I would have just bought the Audi switch for $10 and changed the connector.
