Replace clutch and flywheel average price?
I have a new to me 2006 Boxster in very good condition. There is 106,000 miles on it.
It has been dealer maintained for the life of the vehicle and was a one owner car.
I brought it to the indie and they changed the oil and filter. They looked over the whole car and said it was in great condition. They said the clutch was not slipping at this time. I inquired how much to change the clutch, flywheel and associated parts.
They quoted me around $3500 +.
What did some of you guys pay?
Thanks and enjoying the boxster...my last Porsche was a 924!
Steve

Hey Steve,
I haven't had the work done yet, but, I recently got this verbal quote from Zim's Autotechnik here in TX. IMS bearing and clutch replacement approx. $3500. Add to that $800 for the flywheel if it looks like it needs to be replaced once they can inspect it. Understand that the flywheel parts & labor don't include initially dropping the motor. That's included with the IMS & clutch price. This was just a rough estimate over the phone with the shop that services my 1999 986. Hope this helps a bit.

I have been quoted the same $3,500 by a Porsche Specialist here in LA. However, this number included the flywheel.
Wanted to know as I was in the market for a 986, but ended up getting one with the work already done.

$2600 for clutch and flywheel last yr on my LE at Porsche of Omaha. I imagine labor rates are less here.

I just purchased an 01 S, with 87k miles on it. Unfortunately, it had an oil leak which turned out to be a bad RMS. I had two estimates and did a lot of research before committing to get the work done. The first estimate was from an indie that worked on hybrids and Porsches that quoted 4600 which included the following: RMS, IMS, clutch, pressure plate and new DMF. The second was from an indie down the street from my work who has worked on air cooled Porsche for 30 yrs. He said 1700 for just the RMS, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. if additional work was needed, he said he would call to get the OK.
I went with the shop that had 30 years of Porsche experience. He took it apart and it only needed what he said, RMS, clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing. He also did the 4 cv boots for 300 more $ while the tranny was out. Been daily driving it since I got it back. Love this car.

Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, RMS, IMS and oil/filter change on my Carrera was done last year for $2,300. My Boxster had the same work done over 4 years ago and it was $1,800. The delta between the two is the part prices had gone up and the Carrera is a little more labor.
