Fall is here. How long will you go topless?
When I got my Boxster, I told myself I wouldn't drive it below 50ºF with the top down. Broke that rule first chance I got. Funny how really cold and sunny seems a *lot* warmer than kinda cold and cloudy.
How cold do you all let it get before you put the top up? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1507151568.jpg |
Till last week of October.
With our seat warmers, great heaters, and windstop, these cars are great in cold/cool weather. The back of my neck can get cold, so a rolled up towel (like Rocky Balboa) works great. Sometimes I wear my orange & blue Bears knit hat. |
I don't typically put the top down when temp is <55 f. because of the plastic window. If I can get the window in the sun for a bit then I'll put it down in 50 - 55
I have driven with it down around 40 - 45 f. Then it is like eating the super hot wings, not necessarily all that enjoyable, just manly |
I do not put the top up or down below 70° F unless the car has been in the sun. Not worth the risk of cracking the plastic window.

I saw someone in NJ this morning with their top down in a Volvo. Looked as silly as this!

My soft top goes up and down all time
....during the spring, summer and fall. But the hardtop goes on in November and off in April. I love it, especially in rain. So much quieter and I don't get that damp clammy feeling I do with a soft top. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1507162469.jpg

Living in Louisiana......
....my top is down 99% of the year.
:p |

Nope... |

It finally got "cold" enough to dip below 90 degrees, so I took the hardtop off two weeks ago and have been driving the Box topless. I'll put the hardtop back on around March or April, when the Big Heat comes back. If it rains in between, I just raise the canvas. Just sayin'............. TO |
Top does not go up at any point of the year if I can help it.

49F this morning in Michigan, still top down, felt great!
|
There is a top? I live in GA and figured thats why they put a heater and a/c in the car for year round topless driving.
|
If you drive fast enough, the rain doesn't get in the cabin!
|
the car or??
the car or the passenger??
|
Top down time is here (in Tucson.) I won't put it down if the temp is above 90 or so.
But then my 01 is a project and I'm a newbie! |
I have the hardtop option, just installed it last weekend. Preparing for the Seattle rainy season.

How ridiculous would it be
I keep the car in an unheated garage and it gets cold here. How ridiculous would it be to keep a hairdryer in the garage to warm up the window on cold days before either taking down the top or putting it up?
|
50 degrees is my cutoff typically, but if its 45 when I leave for work, I'll err on the side of top down. Put on a sweater and it's pretty comfortable.
|
I've driven a few times in the past couple of weeks when it was about 45 and it felt great. I love the unobstructed view with the top down and, as of late, the refreshing chill. As for the rain, I got caught out in it the other day with the top down and the Boxster doesn't seem to keep it out at speed as well as my MGB did.
|
I am pulling the hard top off this weekend! was 45 this morning! but 70's now daytime- just 3 weeks ago it hit 90, and we were still humid and lots of rain, so finally will get our fall weather and have the top down for the "winter"! hard top goes back on in july when we get back to the 90+ temps and rain every day
|
With my new GAHH cloth top w/glass window & defroster installed 2 weeks ago Chicago's current 40 degree weather no longer stops me from putting the top down......AND no more plastic window "boxster chop"!.....lol
|
Looks like next weekend also will be a top down weekend here in MA!
|
I'd usually have mine down with the nice cooler temperatures here in Dallas but my top won't go down. Something to do with the sensors, must watch You Tube so I can fix it!
|
In the summer, top down in the mornings. In the winter, top down in the afternoons. Those fabulous 6 weeks between the two, top down every where.
|
In greater Seattle area, I just put the hardtop I acquired last year on my Boxster, which is my daily driver and also gets parked outside. It actually snowed here a bit yesterday, and the rear window defroster should be nice.
