Cool '02 Boxster Intermittent Low Beam Issue

My low beam will work now and then when switching on. The parking, fogs, high beams lights all work well. But the low beams only work sometimes. Usually after the switch is on for a bit they'll come on. Once on, they don't go off unless switched off, and they don't seem to be effected by vibration, so I don't think anything is loose. I've replaced both low beam bulbs, and the Headlight Switch, no change same symptoms. Wiring all looks good. When the low beams won't turn, only the passing high beams work, but don't work when switching to high beam. Kind of stumped on this one. It is possible it could be in the high beam switch?

Thanks!

Hello AZ, I had the same problem with mine. Low beam on Litronic headlights. I took the switch out twice and opened it up, it looked fine inside the first time, so I put it back together again. It worked a couple of times but went back to working sometimes, then not at all. I nearly bought a new switch but before I did I took it apart again and had a look at the inside more closely. It all looked fine. There are what look like points contacts all around the perimeter inside so I decided on the low beam one it must not be contacting enough to make the circuit. Each contact is on a U shaped copper strip so I opened a couple up a little so there would be more pressure on the contact point when the switch is turned to that position. I put it all back together again and it works now every-time. I saved myself over £100. The car is a 2002 Boxster S. I hope this helps you with your car.

Thanks UK!, I'll look at that. I assume you used the switch schematic to identify the low beam contacts?

Garage
If you've already replaced the headlight switch, that can be eliminated.
I'd start with the connector on the headlight tray (make sure it's getting fully seated), then replace/repair the high beam stalk.
