A/C issues

I recently bought a '99 model and the A/C doesn't work well. Does anyone know if the radiator fans should run whenever the A/C is engaged regardless of engine temp? Mine do not. They only run when my engine gets to about 185 degrees.

Yes, the low-speed fans should come on with the A/C compressor engaged (or high-speed if it's hot outside, not certain on the exact temp.).

Have you connected pressure gauges to the system yet? Could be the refrigerant is a little too low to trigger the fans.

There are multiple threads here about the foam rotting off the climate control doors/baffles. The primary effect is that the AC works poorly. Do a search.

The fan has to come on when you turn on the AC in any car as the condenser will not function efficiently unless there is air going across it and you can actually fry the compressor as it will create too much pressure. Having said that there are many reasons your ac will not come on. Low pressure, bad relay, bad switch, bad pressure sensor and the list goes on. Check refrigerant first with a gauge and go from there.
