I recently sold a 2012 Cayman S Black Edition and thought I was finished with Porsches (I'm 92), but recently saw a silver 2000 986 Boxster for sale at my Honda dealer with a newish top, excellent dark blue leather, and new front rotors. They were nice to deal with and I bought it for $6,800 or $7,600 out the door. I had a major service with synthetic Motul oil, flushing brake and transmission fluids, and a thorough examination indicates it is in good order. It had new Kumho M/S tires, but I somewhat unnecessarily installed new Yokohama Nuevo AD08R tires, and have been on two Saturday breakfast rides with my usual friends over San Diego's East County's great twisty roads.
Just to reminisce a little I'll add my Porsche-owning history:
1957 - 1957 new white/dark green interior with chrome wheels 1600 S Speedster, bought while I worked in Holland 8/56-4/67. Also while living in Holland I owned a '62 Volvo 544 which I kept until 1990, shipping it to the U.S., and a remarkable Citroen ID19. (I was born in the U.S. but worked in Holland, Saudi Arabia, and Canada for almost all of my career as an engineer/project manager for an oil company.
1957 - A classic 1935 model Dutch girl, blonde/shapely, whom I married, recently marking 60 years in the logbook.
Then a long period with no Porsches due living mostly in Saudi Arabia, driving the Volvo there from Holland in April 1967 with wife and two little children. In Arabia I had motorcycles but no Porsches. Retired 1985 to Coronado, California.
1996 - 1967 Red 912. Autocross and Time Trials about 7 years. Installed red racing seats, 5-point harness. Engine blew up on track, ending that.
2000 - 1995 Silver/gray 993 Carrera Coupe.
2004 - 1999 black/gray 5 MT Boxster. (Should have kept it.)
About 2012 - Recently finished 1987 Silver 911 Carrera made into Martini livery replica rally car with on road and raised off-road configurations. Built regardless of expense by then Sales Manager San Diego Porsche dealer with GT3 seats, race belts, roll cage, big gas tank, and a whole bunch of accoutrements. I was a dope to sell it. (See also Speedster.)
2016 - 2012 Cayman S Black Edition. Never fell in love with it, heavy controls, put on very few miles. Sold it at loss of $17,000 not including cost of clear bra, new Z2 tires, etc.
August 2017 - The 2000 Arctic Silver/blue interior 5MT Boxster. Definitely loving it, giving it TLC like conditioning the leather.
Also currently have a 2015 Honda Fit LX 6MT and 2017 Camaro 335 h.p. V6 8-speed automatic, both cars with aftermarket wider wheels and Max Performance tires. Over my lifetime I've owned other interesting, not expensive, cars. It would be nice to have an enormous garage with all the cars (and motorcycles) I've ever owned.
