Picked Up Hard Top - Storage Options?
 

I drove 600 miles round trip this weekend to pick up the hard top I bought on eBay. The seller wouldn't ship and would only deliver it 100 miles, so it was a good excuse to take the Boxster on a road trip.

It's from a 98, so it has the "ears" on it. The seller took great care of it. It had one very minor scratch on it, and it's missing the plastic cover for the windshield header latch. It will probably need some minor adjustments since it was a tight fit - the seller and I had to put it on and take it off three times before we could get the spin locks to engage.

Now I'm thinking about the storage issue. I had a hoist for my Miata hard top, and I never trusted it. It looked too flimsy. So, I'm thinking of using the Porsche wall rack to store it. Does anyone have any pictures or suggestions for fabricating my own version?

I found a plan for a hard top cart that looks fairly easy to make, so that's another option.

I'm willing to consider all opinions.

I have the Porsche wall rack with the hardtop cover. I like it because it doesn't take up floor space. For what I paid for it, it probably isn't worth fabricating one. I think the rack and cover was like $175.00. I'm very happy with it.

The rack and cover are Porsche pieces. I got them from wkucharski on ebay. They were new in the box. I just checked and he doesn't have any for sale now. Even straight from Porsche they aren't bad. I think, but don't quote me, the cover is about $100.00 and the rack is about $185. Even at $285 for the two pieces, I think it's a deal because you don't waste a lot of otherwise useable floor space.

Kevin, your Boxster is slowly becoming my Boxster. Next comes de-ambering... then comes rims!

Tequipment also makes a Hardtop Rolling Carrier. Part number 000 044 000 59. I don't know the cost.

Thanks for the replies. I just returned from vacation, so I will start looking for a rack or lift soon. I left the hard top on the car while I was gone, so I need to store it somewhere or I won't be able to enjoy any top down driving.

Jeph - I think I'll wait on the de-ambering and the wheels for a while, but it is a nice look.
