Post your knob
It seems there are quite a few different gears knobs on these cars. Post yours.
I'm looking for the 2.5 5 speed. 2.7 5 speed. And 3.2 6 speed and then any variations beyond that. Maybe a 550 SE.
I feel like anytime I'm near another boxster it has a different shift knob then mine.
This is on my 2000 S.

Function First shift knob, I have it raised pretty high so I just folded the eBay shifter boot over and secured it to the shaft with a zip tie on the inside.

Your GF's is the standard knob provided with the car, and is made of plastic with aluminum look paint and leatherette Your knob is real aluminum and leather, and is an extra cost option. Your knob is heavier, and thus, some say, it will give you more solid, direct shifts. I have had the real aluminum knob in my car before, but found that I didn't actually like it cause it got very hot in the summer if I parked in the sun, and I actually can shift faster with the standard, lighter knob. Thus, I put on the 987 standard knob cause I like the ball shape, and am happy with it.

I just finished making this last week. It was turned from a chunk of walnut that was left over from another project and topped with a shift pattern medallion (designed to fit some Volkswagen or other) sourced from e-bay. The original plan was to make this knob as a prototype and then use the lessons learned making it to turn another from a more exotic wood but this turned out so well I think I'll keep it. Obviously, the replacement shift boot has yet to arrive, I don't want to cut up the OEM knob's boot least I decide to reinstall it in the future.
cheers - dj
p.s. - You get extra points if you noticed the knob is attached to one of Ben's ball bearing short shifters!

I never did reinstall the silver trim piece after getting the leather redone.

From my 997. Factory option with short shift as well. Aluminum with small aluminum patch on brake lever. Expensive option that I'm happy the original owner got to pay for.
