Cayman subwoofer wiring question

I have a Cayman footwell subwoofer that I'll be installing in my Boxster. I'm keeping the attached amp and I'll be wiring it to the subwoofer RCA outputs of my Sony head unit. I have a simple question...

CAI sells this wiring harness to connect the Cayman sub to an aftermarket head ubit (disregard the blue wire):

I have these RCA-to-speaker wire adapters from Ebay (but with male plugs):

So my question is how do I duplicate the CAI harness with my current Ebay harness? Do I merge red from one plug with red from the other (and black with black)? Or do I merge both wires from the same plug together? I'm guessing it's the former but I'm no expert at this...

Javi,

I'm not familiar with the inputs on the Cayman sub/amp you mentioned, but if I understand correctly you're looking to use generic RCA cables to feed it. You're correct in thinking you should just run both the left and right output in parallel. (both red wires together/both black wires together and then to the amp)

The blue wire on the CAI harness is the "remote" wire. It feeds 12V+ to the amplifier as a signal to power on. You'll need that signal if the Cayman amp runs in the same fashion as most other aftermarket amps. Plan on including a remote wire in your install. There will be a blue wire in the harness at the back of your Sony unit. It will be labeled "remote" or "antenna." (some vehicles use that same +12V signal to power on a retractable antenna.)

Thanks. I went with that. I kept getting confused with the red/black (or white) RCA plugs. I keep thinking they're +/- instead of left/right. Shows how much I know about stereos...

I just wired the subwoofer to the new stereo for a test run and WOW. I was shooting for "just bearable" sound but instead made it to "pretty darn good!" (not sure what scale that is but you get the idea). I got more bass than I though that little amp and driver could deliver. The sub apparently was owned by someone who read forums because it was stuffed as suggested in various posts. I see a lot of posts around here on how to get a sub in a Boxster without losing interior space, and let me tell you this is hard to beat - a self-powered, adjustable subwoofer box custom fit to my Boxster that barely takes any space... and it even comes with matching carpeting! All for under $122 shipped to my door

Javi can you post some pics of it installed in your car. Where did you purchase the sub from?

thanks,

Dave

Javi, could you please elaborate a bit on the 'stuffing inside the sub' as my CS also have a sub woofer with the Bose system but I am less than impressed with the sound...

and like you, don't have a clue on sound systems :-(

That does look like the stuffing in my CS sub box.

Here's a crappy work-in-progress pic. I still have to attach the sub but I'm still busy working under the dash so that will have to wait. I also need to trim the vent (the one sitting on the passenger seat) to finish off that top part of the sub where the exposed plastic is.

There's a bunch of subs on Ebay, and as usual for Ebay Porsche parts prices are all over the place. Find the cheapest sub and ask other sellers to match it. I got my sub for $122 shipped after I showed the seller another one for $100, but the one I bought was in better shape and in the right color. The vents are usually sold separately (search for Cayman console vent" as most sellers don't associate it with the subwoofer). I got mine for $25 shipped.
