986 to 987 factory stereo?

Does anyone know if there would be any major challenges to surmount in upgrading a 986 1 din to a 987 2 din, aside from losing the ugly cup holder module?

Aside from not fitting? No idea on the electrical portion of that.

Also the amplifiers are different. So there's that consider too.

Not sure if anyone has done this. Also, not sure why you would as the design looks completely differentl. You may be better off going after market.
