The writer seems puzzled by the odd gauge layout.
Makes perfect sense to me...

I much prefer the Subaru version, but they are great cars to drive. Definition of slow car fast, and they really aren't that slow (the midrange torque hole makes them feel slower than they are, kind of like the overly long gearing on the 2.7 and early 3.2 986's).
