Warranty Direct most reliable cars
Warranty direct just published their list of the top 100 cars in terms of reliablitiy, based on the number of claims per car.
The Boxster ranked #100 Porsche Boxster BTW-the top car was the Honda Accord. Hahhaha, that’s great. The last AJAC poll somewhere Porsche was high in the ratings now were last.
I love those things, lots of fat journalists who can't drive making decisions about what’s best. I have worked in the Automotive Journalism arena for about 5 years and I can actually drive a car around a lap and most of the guys were spinning out the test cars and stuff. The BFG even last year was hilarious. All kinds of Magazine and Newspaper guys there and none of them could drive. It was pretty funny. The BFG guys were pretty pissed off. |
These ratings are drawn from paid claims from the WD data base, so it does not appear to be impacted by opinion.

Interesting list. I'd like to see model years associated with it. I'm shocked that the Subaru Forester is 2nd on the list. My 2001 model ate wheel bearings, had bad coil pack, and still has a vague CEL occasionally, and bad paint. Not to mention the stop leak required by the mfr. to prevent head gasket failure. There are indeed many ways to measure reliability.
Statistically, we really don't know what the population is of each model. Some of the more problematic vehicles are more prone to get 3rd party warranties than others. Cost of repairs would be another driving factor leading some vehicles to be over represented in the total population of third party warranties. Also, the number of claims may have little to do with the dollar value of the repairs, which I think would be more telling. |
They already paid out on mine for the MAF, but they're still a grand and a half up.

Here's a legible verison of the list...

Interesting list...
I contest that the sample data used isn't entirely too accurate when compared to all the cars on the road... This sample only comes from people that have purchased this warranty from Warranty Direct. Repective years would be helpful too. Based on number of claims... I wonder how that relates to cost per claim. Then there's the fact that warranties are written in such a way that they are very particular about what they cover (unless it's a bumper to bumper warranty). Some cars could be more enclined to have smaller problems that are covered (more claims), where as others have catastrophic problems that aren't coverd (not claimed). Does that make the hugely problematic cars more reliable? A Jag, some Audis, MBs, and couple of Peugeots are more reliable than a Corolla? This global perspective sure is different that what perceive. |
That is all fine and the Boxster is STILL at the bottom of the list.

Ranked below a Daewoo! Ouch! I think I'll suscribe to the Daewoo enthusiast's forum. No mid-engines there unfortunatley! BTW - I still love my 986!

I love the 986 too! I would love it more if Porsche decided to make it a bit more robust! |
This is silly...
This data is not scientific and more of a novelty than anything. For example: Here are the top Brands bought at this grocery store in beverly hills. Would that list be similar to the grocery store in Bugtussle, AL, Hope Arkansas, Hong Kong? Would that list have anything to do with the brands sold total in the US? the World? Nope. Nothing more than the novelty of saying woohoo look who is ranked here. Not enough data to be significant in any way. |

Oh yeah, and another thing... # of claims per car? Shouldn't percentages be used? I mean, if they warrantied 1 Bugatti Veyron that only had 1 problem, wouldn't that put it at the top of the list? |

Mg Tf
The MG TF is number 46? These were built in the 50's...and are more reliable than a Boxster?
Hmmm... |
I hadn't noticed that the MG was listed. As an MG owner, I officially declare this list null and void. In some states, using MG and reliability in the same sentence is a felony.
|
That would be the new MG TF, released a few years ago. Not available in the states.

These cars have to be older than the length of the factory warranty correct?
Then they are telling me an audi a4 out of warranty is has less claims than all those cars below it. Perhaps they warranty only one garage queen A4 and 500 MX-6's that are lent to soccer hooligans by Guiness on the weekends. That fact that anyone would post this so-called data makes me wonder if they just enjoy bashing Boxsters and cling to anything reinforcing their position. I wouldn't try to make any point by posting this list for fear that some of you would consider me an idiot. I understand what the data means to the warranty company, but without the rest of the numbers it is worthless data to the consumer. A year ago Top Gear rated the Boxster S as the number one roadster. They didn'nt poll anyone, they drove it....hard. Enjoy your Boxster, drive it hard, and if that doesnt make you smile then maybe #5 the Toyota Yaris is for you. |
