Exhaust pinging after turning off

Question - after parking and turning off the engine, there's a loud popping and pinging that continues for quite a while. Probably 5-10 minutes (I have not timed it). Seems worse when it's cold out. I've never heard anything like this from a car before so not sure if it's normal.

I took a quick video and put on youtube if anyone could let me know if this is something to be concerned about or normal, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

It more than likely is coming from the exhaust / Cat. Someone smarter than me can answer why it happens, but usually happens with mine after the exhaust has gotten hot and is transition back to ambient temperature. Usually the more it pops and pings, the wider the smile is on my face. =)

Sounds pretty normal to me. The cat gets extremely hot, the pinging is just the sound of the metals cooling off.

thanks all - that's what I thought I had read but having never heard anything like it, wanted to confirm.

And yes, it does seem the more noise it's making, the more fun I had driving it home!

I've always wondered what those noises were but was told it was normal. Glad I know now.
