The CPO BMW 550i (2007, bought in 2009 with 15k on the odometer) was hands down the biggest money pit I have ever owned. The day it turned 5 years old and was out of CPO warrant it started costing me big bucks to drive daily.
This is patently false with regards to pre-2005 BMWs
Is the 2007 550i known to be a lemon?

Did you take your 5 year old car to the stealership?
This is a false analogy since that does not apply to the older E46.
E46 are cheap to maintain and can be worked on by indy shops.
