Not a bad price but Alabama is along way from me I don't get the Spyder name though.

Great colors and wheels, but I wish the car had a real Spyder top.

This will confuse people because there were 2 versions/ages of Spyder. The later Model was the desirable(?) one 3.8L + humps and useless top - see the May video on Y/T.

That...

....looks like a great deal.

I bought mine two years ago and paid a lot more than that. But mine only had 25,000 miles on her.

I've tracked the sale of these SE cars for the past two years and this one is one of the better deals I've seen.

I looked at one at a high end boutique seller locally 2 months ago. I think he wanted +/-26K for it. The pictures don't do it justice, the dark brown interior in these cars is exceptionally nice.

This car is growing on me as I love the wheels and the interior finish.

I just feel items labeled 'special editions' are not necessarily truly special, with no disrespect to the item.

I remember the 1978 Corvette Indy Pace car. It was a collector edition as each dealer was allocated only one car each (still amounted to ~6,000 total). Speculators were paying well over the approximate $18K MSRP.

Today, almost 40 years later, excellent examples are still available under $20K.

The market has always decided what is collectible regardless of the item (comic books, art, music etc.). AC cobras weren't collectible, not to mention all the million dollar Ferarri's crossing the auction blocks.

Ugh... my favorite 986. That is a great price pending a PPI. Five owners is a tag concerning. But, if the PPI is good then follow 10/10ths lead and have some things upgraded and you're good to go.

I'll bet his reserve is over $20k. I just paid $20k for a 2004 Boxster S SE Tip with 52k miles. I actually think it's worth more since it was in excellent condition. If I were you, I would grab it. I absolutely adore mine.

These are very special indeed and have a bit more to love than a regular S for example:

2004 550 S model (1953 built to mark the year the Spyder was first introduced)
**** A special “these options included” model
**** 3.2 Litre engine 266 HP at 6200 RPM
**** 6 speed manual transmission, Tiptronic 5 speed optional
**** GT silver metalic paint
**** Cocoa full-leather interior (also available is Dark grey with option code DY)
**** Cocoa convertible top
**** 18” Carrera wheels with colored crests and grey spokes (delete grey option code 192)
**** Silver brake calipers
**** Color-matched roll hoops
**** Unique stainless steel exhaust tip
**** Litronics headlights with washers
**** GT Silver interior accents
**** Perforated Cocoa sport seats and steering wheel
**** Unique aluminum shifter and handbrake
**** Heated seats
**** On-board computer
**** Chrome rimed gauges
**** Hi-Fi Stereo system
**** Custom grill inserts for rear bumper
**** Special chrome badging for rear deck lid and interior
**** Special rear tail light lenses (all red)****
**** Sports suspension
**** Spacers on all 4 wheels for wider track
**** Porsche Stability Management

What makes the suspension a sports suspension? Not sure 18's are all that better either. Sounds like a lot of cosmetic stuff.
It's a beautiful car, just not sure I get the the price gap. In comparison, is it that much different in upgrades than the non S and the S when comparing to the S? The gap between non S and S is only about 2-3k typically. The SE seems to have a 10-15k gap over the S. Just weird to me. Maybe it's the kind of low numbers for today's standards of what is considered low.
Just curious, Do low vins on 1st year models mean anything anymore?

Their web site has it listed for $18,900. The BIN is $18,950. And they have listed the engine as a "Hybrid 6 3.2 Li". The Boxster Hybrid is a very very rare engine only found in one of the 550 SE Boxsters.... this one!

Someone get a PPI and buy this Boxster. It belongs on this board!!

They should change it down to #1952 - there is one that has been rotting away in the parking lot at my shop for like 3 years with a bad motor - poor little car. Only like 60K on it too.
