				CDR-23 auxiliary input

I found a shop out of New Jersey named Becker Auto Sound that will add a auxiliary input to the CDR-23 radio. Anyone have any experience with this shop? A little hesitant to send my radio across the country to get this done. I do like that they add the AUX input to a dummy switch on the dash.Porsche | PCM CDR23 CDR24 aux ipod input | Saddle Brook, NJ

Obviously the same thing. Works very well and pairs quickly upon starting the car. I bought one for an 03 Box with a CRD-23 but sold the car. Ended up putting the device in an 02 4runner. Easy install and works great for both calls and music.

				What's the diff???

			I'll tell you, Heliguy.
The difference is the service.

I ended up ripping the microphone apart, don't ask, and the Bumper Plugs owner was able to contact the manufacturer, who he has a relationship with as a distributor, and get me a replacement microphone that worked.

Wal-Mart can't do that.

You get what you pay for. We have all of these folks who support our Boxsters, I'd rather give them my money than Wal-Mart.

I'll pay a little more for that kind of support and service.

Every.

Single.

Time.

Walmart will take returns and/or exchanges and most of us have one within a few miles, so no waiting for shipping.
Most people would prefer to save the extra $55.
175% markup is not "paying a little more". That's a lot more.

I've bought radio knobs twice from Becker Auto Sound. Seemed like a good seller to me.

IIRC, the AUX input they add is mono, not stereo
The tranzit blu from what I have heard is a pretty good product
It is a FM modulator, but it connects at the antenna so I believe it switches between itself and the car antenna

				CDR-23 auxiliary input

Becker Auto Sound is the authorized Becker dealer/repair shop in the US. I used them to diagnose a bad amp, bought a reconditioned one, and had them add an Aux (yes, it is mono only) with the dummy variable wiper cover for my 03. They delivered service as promised. They also replaced the knobs on my CDR23 for no charge, without me asking. I'd feel comfortable doing business with them.
However, I may add the transit Blu as well. I have to think about it, as I just don't find myself listening to much music in the car, other the flat six type.

Regardless of who you purchase from....
I'd owned my Tranzit Blu over two years before I installed it. I was having a difficult time with the initial set up, mostly trying to pair the unit for the first time, while following the directions. I finally determined that the provided button and its cable were flaky.

I contacted the company directly and they sent me a new button....no questions asked. Installed using new part and the device has worked flawlessly.

				You guys...

....did NOT read what I posted.
I destroyed the microphone and Bumper Plugs was able to get me a replacement microphone.

 I couldn't exchange the item.

 I broke the item.

 Service has a value.

Yeah, but for that markup, you could've bought several replacement microphones. If they got it replaced for free, you probably could have done the same.
Sorry, but that's an absolutely HUGE markup...almost double price.

...I bought a cheap microphone on Amazon as a replacement first and that mic did NOT work.
I called Bumper Plugs and they shipped out a replacement that day.

That's worth a lot to me.

What's your time worth?

My time is worth a LOT. I don't have a lot of free time to screw around with these things. I'd rather spend my off time driving the darn car.

And on another fundamental level, I don't see it as wasted money, I see it as investing in vendors who support our cars. They buy ads in Panorama and Excellence and keep our community thriving. They are resources that I don't want to see disappear.

Just as I buy tires from my local motorcycle dealership and have them install them on my bikes, instead of ordering them off the internet and try to save a few bucks. Just like I buy tires for my Boxster and have them installed by the local Firestone store instead of buying online from the Tire Rack.

I WANT my local guys to stay in business. I WANT the vendors who support our Porsches in the PCA and elsewhere to make money. I WANT these folks around. I NEED them around. They make my sports car and motorcycle life BETTER.

If we all cheaped out and mail ordered everything from Amazon or eBay or walked into a Wal-Mart, all of those precious businesses and the knowledge they have about our toys will vanish.

Once they are gone, keeping our fun, old cars will become just that little bit harder and more aggravating and less joyful.
