engine noise

My engine ticks on initial startup if it has been left for a couple of days or more, seems worse now the weather is cold. After a while the noise reduces , or if I drive off it is not audible. when engine is warm their is a very slight light ticking , but not at all when moving. Using Mobil super 3000 5w/40. I know about lifters draining down , etc, but is this a common thing what I am describing. thanks

There are many, many Threads on this subject. First you need to determine the precise location of the ticking. Use a Steelman Engine Ear.

Of course make sure the engine is sound, but a good 0-40 oil could help a lot. It did for me.

It should only do it when cold. If the engine has been sitting for sometime oil drains away from the lifters and as the engine begins to warm up they quite down and back to normal. No worry about the lifters!
