Climate Control Relocation

Why does everyone relocate the climate control unit to the bottom cubby when replacing the stereo with a dual din unit? Will it not fit in the second from bottom cubby? I would rather relocate mine to the higher position.

Thanks,
Brad

Because there is not a pre-made trim piece for that slot. Some have used a modified cup holder or upper CC slot trim piece, but it requires some cutting.

Will the climate control unit fit in the same trim piece for the DSP sound control panel or will I need to get another trim panel for the climate controls? They look to be the same size, but I have not been able to measure them yet. I am doing the work for a friend that has the DSP already in the car, but we plan on getting rid of it since they are going to put in the cup holders.
