The only issue I see with that is getting the car up to the lowest height of 19.5 inches. 6 Ton axle stands start at about 17 inches so you can get the car to that height using regular 2 or 3 ton stands.

I have 17" jack stands and ramps, so that's how it will be done. A lift is completely out of the question for now. Maybe someday...

Ordered the clutch kit last night, but it may not be here until nearly Dec., thanks to the holiday. I'm actually looking forward to the job. I can't wait to get in there and have a look at things. :D

I am finding conflicting info on the pressure plate bolts. Some show that a Torx bit is needed, others show a Torx socket. I'd hate to get in there and find that I don't have the right tools, so I guess I'll order some sockets (have bits), but curious what others have found...?

Pressure plate or flywheel?
The pressure plate is Allen bit. Not torx.

The flywheel is torx bit.

Ah, got it. The flywheel is T-55 Torx and the pressure plate is hex. I think I was confused because I found replacement bolts in both hex and Torx head.
Now, if only my parts would show up. I'm itching to get started! :D

Thanks!

All the info is at Pelican. Suggest you investigate Torx vs Triple square a.k.a XZN
The bigger cost issue is the requirement for a torque angle wrench. Pelican has a diy for the angle .
But ll this has been discussed many times :-).

Got it covered. As I noted, I've been through the pelican article (kind of rubbish) and already have the triple square bits. I just got mixed up on the pressure plate replacement bolts.

Does the suspension need to unloaded (car suspended by jack points)?

It's going to be a couple weeks yet...

Edit: I'll need to turn the axles to get to all the bolts, so I guess I answered my own question. :D

Other than turning the axles to get to all of the bolts, does anyone know of any reason why the suspension needs to be unloaded? I plan on knocking this job out soon and I have a kwik lift (basically a giant steel ramp) that I use for anything of this scale.

Not sure but I would guess could be that you are not supposed to leave the weight on the suspension when removing the triangle bottom support?

Also, it's way easier of a job if the rear wheels are out of the way...

average "wrench" kind of guy

This is totally achievable if you have time, tools and space.
I did have the advantage of a friend with a lift.

Between the 101 peojects, the bently book and utube there is enough info out there.
I did find "burner" usefull.

I did buy all parts in advance including the notorious bearing fix.

Hindsight being 20/20, I found a beautiful bearing in place.

I did replace it as I had the part, however if I did it again I would inspect the IMS being in place first. The one in my 2000S likely did not need replacing.

I found the boots split so I added that to the project. (dont forget new hardware if you take the axlex off at the transmission).

This is something you can do, take your time.

My understanding is that this is important... so no you cannot leave the suspension loaded...

Thank you both. I'll try to figure something out then. I'm guessing anyone that's dropped the transmission with a 4-post lift has used a sliding/rolling jack or similar?

The hardest part for me was trying to undo the clutch slave joint. I think the hulk tightened it 😂
