986 2.7 MY 04 vs 996 3.4 MY99 vs 996 3.6 MY 01 vs

Hello,
I I can trade in my Boxster 986 2004 85k miles with 996 c4 3.4 (1999) 120k kilometers and C4 3.6 (2001) 140k kilometers both are black and tiptronic.
I have driven the 3.6 c4 and I feel the more horse power compared with mine....but not what I was expected to feel....
tomorrow I will go test drive with the 3.4 C4.
As I read on the web 996 engines have issues with RMS and dont know what else....
I would like to hear your feedback on the 996 car and engines compare with 986 2.7 engines as long as the driving feeling of two cars prons and cons....your contribution is very important on my decision because in cyprus people are not very well educated in porsche.

Thank you

Marios

I had a 99 and a 2000 C2 and I honestly like the Boxster better. The 911 was fun but I often felt like it was a GT car not a sports car. The Boxster is much sharper and changes direction better. Just a more fun driving experience.

They had rock solid reliability..needing only 1 window regulator plus normal maintenance

I believe the M96 engine have the same issues either in a Boxster or 911.

The issues are the same across the 986/996 range.

Drive the cars yourself to determine how they drive and what you like but most find the Boxster to be more of a true sports car and the Carrera more of a GT. A C4s character is a bit different due to the four wheel drive and the extra weight and complexity/maintenance is brings with it. If you don't need the extra traction due to weather I'd go with a C2 but when you are shopping for a used car I get that you sometimes need to make compromises. The 3.6 at 100 hp more then the 2.7, is definitely a more noticeable jump in power compared to the Boxster vs. the 3.4. Good luck.

Is your current 986 a TIP or manual transmission car? Why the move to the 911? Prestige, power (can you even use it on your roads), hardtop, 4WD, auto trans?

A 911 and a 986 of the same year will have the same RMS and IMS problem probability assuming original engines. The 1999 is around 4-8 times less likely than the 2004 or 2001. Maintenance history of each of the prospective cars would be important. Especially suspension updates.
