I had a 99 and a 2000 C2 and I honestly like the Boxster better. The 911 was fun but I often felt like it was a GT car not a sports car. The Boxster is much sharper and changes direction better. Just a more fun driving experience.

They had rock solid reliability..needing only 1 window regulator plus normal maintenance

I believe the M96 engine have the same issues either in a Boxster or 911.

The issues are the same across the 986/996 range.

Drive the cars yourself to determine how they drive and what you like but most find the Boxster to be more of a true sports car and the Carrera more of a GT. A C4s character is a bit different due to the four wheel drive and the extra weight and complexity/maintenance is brings with it. If you don't need the extra traction due to weather I'd go with a C2 but when you are shopping for a used car I get that you sometimes need to make compromises. The 3.6 at 100 hp more then the 2.7, is definitely a more noticeable jump in power compared to the Boxster vs. the 3.4. Good luck.
