Center Console Lock

Hello - small problem with my 2000 Boxster. I can get the center storage compartment to lock if I play with it, but regardless of it being locked or unlocked - the entire lock cylinder comes out with the key (see Pic). Any ideas how to fix? The key does mate with the cylinder, the issue is the cylinder not staying in the console.

Thanks,

Jim

Haven't had mine out yet so I don't know what the tumbler looks like underneath. Is it drilled and threaded? If so there should be a screw and washer holding it in which apparently has fallen off. Otherwise I have seen others with a washer with a rectangular or square hole that is swaged onto the end of the tumbler.

ever figure this out?

Hey tommy - did you ever figure this out? I'm having the exact same problem with my '99 Boxster. The console is locked, and because the cylinder keeps coming out every time I try to unlock it, I can't open the console at all.

Try this

Push down on the armrest as you try to open it.....might work. Or you could do what I did and have a thief just break it open for you.....then you have to fix it.

Something amiss in #20. Pull the console out and have a look.

I removed the short metal rod that's on the underside of the cover, and found a round black plastic insert to fill and cover the lock button..........problem solved. Yes, I can no longer "lock" the armrest compartment but I could care less since I don't keep anything of any value in it....and never would even IF I could lock it. I just wanted to cosmetically fix the missing lock button.
