Center Cap Cleaning advice

My Center caps are looking a little, well, tired....any advice on how to brighten them up and back to something like respectable, I don't think soapy water is going to cut it?

My center caps looks like yours, cleaned with Wallgreens Alcohol, use very little on a rag, dry with clean rag, wait about 5 minutes and do again till clean. After that I used auto touch up clear coat. I also used a small pop rivet in one of the holes because I lost two center crest.

I'd buy new ones. Keep you eyes peeled to the internet. You should be able to pick-up a better used set for about $50-$100.

You can actually sand them with 600 wet/dry paper and use rubbing compound to bring the shine back. It works well. It's better then spending $80 per wheel for new Porsche ones (like you have). Tape off the silver part and sand and polish the shield.

Mine looked like that, also lost two crests. Went with one of the eBay "genuine" cap sellers, and for $20 they look really damn good.

He also gave me some orange side markers and the oem catback exhaust from his 987

I had some that were way worse than this, and when I tried to wash them 2 of the badges fell off. I went ahead and pried off the other two badges, stripped them with aircraft remover, and then painted them using a 3 stage process:

Stage 1: painted them silver using the Wurth wheel color silver, several coats
Stage 2: painted them very lightly with a satin black
Stage 3: using a light touch, I sanded away the black from the raised spots, leaving me with silver emblems with black lowlights. This matched a custom emblem that I had for my hood.

I glues them back on using automotive emblem adhesive.

The look good from 5 feet away
