Porsche Centre Guildford: Brakes *and* disks at 17k miles?
Hi,
I've owned an 987 Boxster since Easter - its an 05 model with around 17000 miles on it. In the space of a week, a check engine warning came up, as well as a check brakes warning (the engine warning turned out to be the either the cat and rear main oil seal - both warranty jobs happily and both fixed). The brake light was due to the front pads they said - and advised me that because the disks were 'lipped' I should get them swapped as well - £650 for both inc. Speaking to the engineer afterwards, they were not near their serviceable limit, and should they be machined down to remove the lip, that maybe a problem. But with only 17k miles on the click - I'm suspicious of the rationale to replace the disks at the same time as the pads. 1 - Is this a matter of course on Boxsters - or have I been done by a main dealer? I was narked because I got no courtesy car anyway + the phone advisory on cost was not quoted inc VAT, so my judgement maybe a little clouded. 2 - Anyone know of a good place around Surrey to take a Boxster for decent care and not get stitched? Cheers, Nick. |
