Tailpipe tip shine?

Hi,
What are y'all using to shine up your tailpipe tips? I just bought a '99 basic and it's quite lovely, however the tailpipe tip is dull in comparison to the rest of the car. I googled and of course found a million products, decided to post here since there's different metals used for exhaust pipes and I don't have a clue as to what our B's are made of...

I use Happich Simichrome polish.

I'm sure others have their favorites - I hope they will chime in...

I use glass cleaner, and steel wool on mine.

I use basic Noxon all purpose metal cleaner, but interested to see what others are using that may be better.

Lol three replies already, and three different answers! Would it matter if I posted pics? Can't do it yet, at work...

I used Barkeeper's Friend to start and then Simichrome, making sure the tailpipe was cleaned of one product before using the other. I cleaned it last year for the first time since I bought my car new in 2003 and it still looks pretty good. My tailpipe is stainless steel and removes from the muffler with one bolt so it can be done sitting at a table - it's a 2003 S.

Ooh I hope mine removes as well, will check when I get home, thanks!

On a side note, I hit the Spell Check button instead of Submit Reply, it marked every word as a spelling error? :p

everyone has favorite products...I worked for a custom motorcycle manufacturer for several years...we used a product, that I now swear by...Autosol. They have a variety of products and I would not use anything else....but, that's just one guy's opinion.

Autosol. This stuff is great.

Do you guys use Autosol for aluminum, or for stainless steel?

nieuwhzn 07-13-2016 09:06 PM

Who cares?! It's going to get dull again quickly. All the polishing makes it worse. Just drive the car.

^ +1

Always wanted to have mine powder coated black, gave up the idea eventually. Actually does the trick naturally if unpolished. Beside there is nothing better looking than a thick and ugly dirty and carbonized performance lookin tailpipe :D

RE Autosol. Yes, the best polisher I've tried also. Especially on AL... Autosol is yet the only abrasive that will give you "mirror-like" surface finishes with very little effort. Great prod, worth saying

I used Autosol on mine, it's an Aluminium (yeah they even spell it properly on the packet! :P) polish but it worked fine and came up really easy.

Who else found the title of this thread hilarious, "Tail Pipe Tip Shine"?

If this were a Seinfeld episode the punch line would be, "Not that there is anything wrong with that";)

"nothing better looking than a thick and ugly, dirty and carbonized, performance lookin tailpipe"

> I take my words back

I like my pipes dirty
I just clean when I wash car.
It's like detailing the engine, 100 miles later it's dirty again
Unless your car just sits in the garage
