Brasso here. It's what I had laying around, and seemed to work just fine. Stainless steel polished aftermarket muffler and tips. I'm sure the original tips are also polished stainless steel, and would guess the original muffler is mill finished (not polished) stainless steel.

I just used Brasso this week, and am very happy with the results. The tailpipe looks new again.

Nooooooo..... don't listen to these naysayers. Shine those pipes!
I bought a very rough PSE and brought it back to life - I first used a 2" 320 grit Scotch Brite Polishing Ball on a power drill along with Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream. It took the top layer of grit off. I then used brake cleaner, Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and applied this by hand using 0000 super fine steel wool . This cleaned it up more and added some shine. Lastly, I put several coat of Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish on by hand rubbing it in well then buffing it with a soft cloth. I would guess I put 10 to 12 hours into the polishing of it.
Before and after.... I regularly get under the car to admire it!

I have a Base with the single oval tip. I thought I'd get a head start by taking it off and polishing it. Having trouble getting the bolt off. At first I just thought it was bit rounded, but now it appears (from a position lying on my back) to be welded. Anyone have issues with this?

muffler tips
I gave up on polishing the muffler tips. When I did the Pedro hack I had the system thermal coated with a titanium finish. Job done!

Is your tip removable, or do you have the upgraded cover? My old cover was held on by a pinch bolt on the side that was like a 6mm hex.

Could be a welded on tip, depends on the year. Earlier cars had them welded on. Later years had bolt on tips. Don't take it as gospel, but I think 2002 was the changeover year.

The bolt is on the bottom on my 2003 Base. Can't imagine why they would weld it, but - oh well, getting the tip off to polish is not exactly a critical job.
Nice, Keith!
I'd really like "Chuck level" shine as the redesigned rear bumper on the 03 has the vents which make the muffler more visible.

This was the Patagonia special. Hammond's Mustang had the filler tube behind the rear plate so a laugh was had. The music that accompanied the scene really provides the finishing touch. 10/10 Highly recommend.
