I wish I had words of encouragement, but getting the vents out without breaking something is hard. Sometimes they come out without a fight, but most of the time they can be difficult. I have a busy weekend coming up, but I'll try and post a picture of the back side so you can see what you're dealing with. The black part of the vent has three tabs that slide into metal brackets attached to the vehicle. In the front leading corner of the vent there's a lip that holds it to the body. If you come straight out with the vent on that corner, you'll break that tab off. There might be a special tool or procedure for getting them out?
