Alarm chime question

The alarm on my '99 recently started acting up a bit. Sometimes when I lock the car with the key fob, after about 20 seconds the car will emit a single beep. Other times after locking it I will hear a double beep after about 4-5 seconds. Does anyone know what these alarms mean? My understanding is that I should hear no beeps after setting the alarm. If it beeps, does this mean the alarm is not set?
Also, the red light on the dash (the one you can see flash from outside the front of the car) will double flash, pause for a few seconds and double flash again. Is this normal?
Sorry, I know there is a lot of questions here.

I get the single beep after setting the alarm because my top is manual and sometimes the wing doesn't sit properly causing the alarm to not set properly. (My top is always down in the summer)

To be honest, I never thought about whether the alarm is actually set or not after I hear that beep. Guess I'll have to try that out tonight.

I don't know what the double beep means though.

This thread seems to have some answers.

Reading the first couple threads, it looks like one beep = an alarm zone is unsecure. Two beeps = alarm module fault.

Do you have a manual?
If so, you might try looking at it

If you don't have a manual, do a web search or PM me and I'll send you a link for the one I have from an 03

In any case a single beep just after locking generally denotes something is not closed like the center armrest and the alarm is not set, but the car is locked. You can get the same result, locked but no alarm with a double click of the remote
