986 spoiler differences

Just realised there's a difference in spoilers:

Mine:

Someone else's on here:

Is one older and one newer? Different styles? Quite confused.

Mines a 2003 as well. Could be that ours is the newer one? I quite like the old one.

The spoiler was changed to the wider version in 2003.
You also get the newer style cluster, weird mismatched side vents and that horrid soft touch interior finish

@ particlewave: Mine has some leather packages. Everything leather except the airbag and the defrosters – was expensive, but i dont't regret. So theres not a lot of "soft touch" in there.

The only real soft touch is on the door arm rest holders. But these were changed by guaranty by Porsche in 2004. No problems since than.

Can't say there's anything wrong with this interior

Though I am improving it over time. Adding door speakers (after market but with standard speaker grills to look OEM), better double din radio, microphone in the correct place by the dials, adding courtesy lights in the corners of the doors, etc. Basically speccing it up to the more higher specced car.

Anyway, we digress. At least we know the differences in the spoiler

I didn't mean that it looks bad. It does peel easily with wear and time and many have struggled to find a solution (plasti-dip is similar, but getting the old stuff off isn't always easy).

Woody just went through this...IIRC, he opted to toss the soft touch bits for the earlier uncoated bits.

Those side vents, though...

You've got me intrigued now! What do you mean by mismatched side vents?

On yours, the louvres have been moved outward and the left side vent sticks out more than the right side.
You also have a single row IMSB.

The side vent is to improve airflow into the intake...actually an upgrade.
I was just giving you crap.

It would bug me, though.

Wish I knew this before I took the vents out to clean inside them and spent half an hour thinking I hadn't refitted one of them correctly lol

Single row IMSB doesn't bother me much. My car gets driven daily, by myself and past owners, and gets driven enthusiastically when I get the chance. It's also very well looked after in terms of treating the engine well

If it goes, it goes, but I won't be replacing it.

Be careful with those 03 and 04 spoiler covers. They aren't attached very well and are very expensive to replace.

Don't all the left side vents stick out some? Or wait no. Why does the right one stick out on the older cars if not all of them?

Are we talking about the exterior rear quarter engine vents or the dash vents?

are there any pictures showing these side vent differences? I am curious because I have 2 slightly different vents. one sticks out on the passenger side about half an inch further with a lip that isn't like the driver side.
