Boxster 1999 coolant reservoir tank is leaking
Good morning guys
Porsche Boxster 1999 My reservoir coolant tank is leaking in the trunk, I can see the water coming down the plastic bottle. is it recommended to put K & W Chemical FiberLock in it? I checked the cap and no water come from it, there is crack maybe. I bought one aftermarket for 69$ on eBay apprentely it's the same.. Do u think it safe to replace it by the aftermarket one? Thanks guys |

Thanks but I see no different between the one I bought and the original I have
|
Then why ask the question if you have already made up your mind to use the cheap one?
You've been given good advice but if you prefer to learn this lesson the hard way then, by all means, proceed. BTW, this topic has been discussed many times previously in this forum. Give the search function a try. It might save you some grief. |
Do you enjoy being frustrated, injured, pissed, confused, and wasting your time? If you answered yes to ALL of those questions then install the cheap eBay tank (you will end up doing the job twice since that tank is garbage - ask me how I know). OR buck up and get the genuine Porsche part, do the repair once and be done.
The replacemenet process sucks, do it once and you can save quite a bit of cash because it it is time consuming. I do not wish having to do the job twice on anyone. Starting to sense a theme here? |
Guys, Guys be positive.
Look on the bright side: It's easier to do this job the second time Because it sucks the first time |
I looked at doing my own - Decided NOPE - 4 hrs at the dealer - Done Deal.
If you do it on your own good on ya. |
I got your advice guys, I contacted a dealer.. The total will cost me 950$, they will install an OEM one costing 376+ taxes + labor+ water. So expensive for the coolant resevoir!
|
I sympathize. I just had mine done and it was over $800. I about dropped, but that's what it costs, and I didn't want to pay for it again down the road. I think you're making the right decision.

This job is no fun. I'm a cheap Az and did mine myself. $225 for the tank (about 5 years ago), 1 hour to remove old tank and three hours of fun putting the new one in.
Thank goodness I got a good tank. Not looking forward to having to do this again one day. |
I have no idea about how to do it.. It complicated about the bleding or put the air out after the job is done. and I think they have to pull the car up. Now I have to send back the aftermarket one. I should come here before I bought it.
Thanks guys |
I bought a new part for $250 and had it installed for $250 approx. Canadian funds...
|
Hodan - I just noticed you live where I do.... send me a PM and I will give you the name and shop where I got mine done. He does great work for fair price.

Coolant reservoir tank
I was on pelican website guys, I saw differents prices for the reservoir coolant tank: 408$ genuine Porsche, 352$ genuine Porsche, 229$ German... Can u guys tell me the difference? Witch one is better? Can all of them do the same job? Thanks
|
DRCactus, I sent you 2 PM.. Can you tell me the website you bought yours for 250$ Canadian funds??
|
Yeah I am pretty sure I bought mine off Ebay for around $250 Canadian... Porsche wanted over $500 just for the part. I remember that I saved over 50% after buying and getting it installed from my shop. So you have to think the guy selling it and the car shop are both making some good profit already so Porsche is just nailing their customers really bad..... you think they care about their customers not when they can do this with a smile on their face.
|
$69 on ebay -- ummm seems super cheap compared to what I seen years ago. I mean you never know the quality of the $250 one either mind you... you just think its better quality the higher the price. The labour time to install is a lot several hours of work so its not something you want to break down after a couple months mind you. Save money now, end up paying twice the price later....

Ok buddy, I just talk to him, we have an appointment on Tuesday to make a test on it. If you find the infos about the parts i will appreciate. Mine is a Boxster 99. Sure I'm gonna check at MarkMotors to fin the right number for the reservoir. Thanks again buddy.
