I was just watching Barrett Jackson today from Palm Beach and a 1987 924 S with original 43,000 miles, black leather interior (which was perfect) with the original red paint go for $6,500.00. Man if I was there that car would have been mine for that money. I know the 924's were slow etc but this one was a great example of a original unmolested car. Its sad to see these 924/944's go so cheap because in the 80's these cars were sweet. I guess go to the muscle car auction's to get these older Porsche's for cheap.

A 924? Eh. I think 6500 was a little strong. Glorified vw. The 944 was a different animal, much more porsche but even those are a dime a dozen unless you've got a 944 turbo. Just the supply demand reality. Wait till you see boxsters in the same condition going for less...

I'm with you Jay. I'd take it at that price. I like 914's too, so I guess I like glorified VW's

The 87s were sweet in the they had the 944 drive train eliminating a lot of the old VW crap. It you can get past the dashboard these are pretty cool little cars.

924 S is a cool car, I remember checking one out at a local European classic lot. It was listed for like 8k. Too much for me but an awesome car regardless.

I like the concept, to take an old outdated body (lighter), slap in the new engine, and send it to dealers. How about a 986 off the line with a 9A1 3.4 motor, that would be cool. They could call it the 986 GTS!

87 was based on 944 running gear. engine was detuned to not be faster than the 944. 924 has always been underated and the last years were the best.

I don't recall the 87 924 being detuned. I actually recall a Road & Track article comparing the 924, 944 and 944S and the 924 had the same hp as the 944 and it was faster due to being lighter.

Looks to be a nice car, but remember as is the case with most car auctions, there is anywhere from a 10%-20% buyer's premium in addition to the hammer price of the car. Looks like all-in this went for close to $7400, which still seems like decent money given the condition and low-mileage of the car.
