mystery part hanging from rear jack point
Last weekend I went to change the oil on my 2001 Boxster and found a part I can't identify hanging down from just forward of the "rainy day" rear jack point.
It's about 5 inches in total length and has 2 wire hook-like things at one end and a long metal part about the diameter of a pencil about 3 inches long at the other end.
Looks like it probably fell from somewhere above.
Anyone know what this is?
Or is my motor about to blow without having it where it belongs?
Thanks.

I have removed everything from the seats back underneath a 986 & don't recall anything like that, so unless that is a tiptronic part I think it just hitched a ride with you.

Looks like the uber version of the center cap removal tool:
Put it on eBay as super exclusive Porsche Tool making up a part # (starting w/ 9 of course) and charge $150

Not a tiptronic; standard 5-speed Box.
I did just have the rear bumper repainted after a close encounter with a parking garage support pillar. While the car was there, the shop managed to scratch the panel that covers the top when it is down, so they also repainted that. Is the weird item possibly some sort of body shop tool?

Cool! Thanks, Deserion.
The body shop must have left it there while they were reattaching the rear bumper after painting it.

Not to mention....What happened to the rest of the light? Did you notice any strange sounds emanating from underneath the car when you picked it up from the shop? Like maybe loud thumps?
