Has anybody had good luck with these?

This was my first (of many to come) summers with my boxster. Just found out about this piece and "cheating" the motion detectors so I can leave the top down. Has anyone used it and how good do you think it works? I find a short delay, don't leave a bag where it can be picked up but it will still set it off.

You can also get the same result by sticking your finger in to push the switch while turning off the car
I do have the red clip as well

The delay is built into the alarm system

I've been using one for several years and they are iffy. Today I parked at TJ's with one on and set the alarm, when I came out I set three bags in the front passenger side, forgetting to turn the alarm off, and nothing happened. As a rule I don't leave anything in the car with the top down that can be taken. Anything valuable is locked in the console.

Mine works. I reached into the car to pick up my sunglasses the other day while the car was locked and the alarm went off immediately.

you can also get them at TC's Garage
Only $ 6.25

Porsche Parts > Boxster, Cayman > Interior Trim, Trunk > RED CLIP FOR TOP 97-04 BOXSTER

They are really great people to deal with.
They also give additional discounts to PCA members

They can get you virtually any part you need, even if it is not on their website

Can someone explain what this is for? I guess on the rare occasions that I leave the top down on an errand, I don't lock the car. (nothing left visible in the cabin)

It tricks the car into thinking the top is closed. Which in turn activates the motion sensor in the car. If the car thinks the top is open or the center console is open, the motion sensor is deactivated.

Thank you. I was under the impression that the IR sensor alarm was armed whenever the car was locked, top up or down.

It is (I believe) to lock the top so you can't open it if you have the roof transport system installed with the top down. As a benefit you get the motion detector enabled since the car thinks the top is up.

Lately I have not been enabling my alarm since I had it go off one time when my phone mount fell.off the windshield while the car was parked causing the alarm to go off

It was also provided with the speedster humps. You wouldn't want to operate the top accidentally with those in place. I read somewhere that coloring it red helped the driver remember not to try it.

Porsche of Albuquerque doesn't even know what they are. So I used a penny. Easy to insert and remove.

So are you saying that if the red clip is in place but the center console isn't locked the motion sensor doesn't function? (I would test this myself but I've---temporarily?---misplaced my clip.)

Yes and you will get a single horn beep to let you know something is not closed
