When i insert the key and turn it to on position --- if a wait a moment---there is a electronic buzz that seems to come from the front left of the car.
I told the service advisor about it when i recently had my car in, and his initial assessment was a relay---
When i picked up the car --- he said that it was a normal sound and the mechanic had deterrmined it was due to the motors that auto level the lights ---
Listen guys, as you already know--- I'm dumb as wood-- so of course i went along with it.... but thinking about it some more--- it happens all the time-- not just when the lights are on!!!!----
I'm no expert (though I play one at my day job), but my guess is the fuel pump. I hear somthing like what you describe, and I do not have motorized headlights (Litronics).
I have a 2001S and i hear the same bzzz with an electronic ticking at the end which comes from the left of the car. I pulled out the carpet cover and i have noticed that it comes from a black switch maker Bosch ( or relay, i dont know exactly what it is but according to the book i've seen that subject is attached to the hydraulic unit anti lock brake system control ).
