Electronic Buzz when turn key on

Is this normal?

When i insert the key and turn it to on position --- if a wait a moment---there is a electronic buzz that seems to come from the front left of the car.

I told the service advisor about it when i recently had my car in, and his initial assessment was a relay---

When i picked up the car --- he said that it was a normal sound and the mechanic had deterrmined it was due to the motors that auto level the lights ---

Listen guys, as you already know--- I'm dumb as wood-- so of course i went along with it.... but thinking about it some more--- it happens all the time-- not just when the lights are on!!!!----

Anyone else notice this ????

The sound is normal. I get the same thing when I turn the key without starting.

I'm no expert (though I play one at my day job), but my guess is the fuel pump. I hear somthing like what you describe, and I do not have motorized headlights (Litronics).

I've got an old one, '97, and it does the same thing. Dealer claims "normal". Just would like to know what it is!

Me too! I hear it on my 2001 and I'd like to know what that is!

electronic buzz when turn key on

I have a 2001S and i hear the same bzzz with an electronic ticking at the end which comes from the left of the car. I pulled out the carpet cover and i have noticed that it comes from a black switch maker Bosch ( or relay, i dont know exactly what it is but according to the book i've seen that subject is attached to the hydraulic unit anti lock brake system control ). Perhaps an expert from this forum can help us and clear out this question.

Thanks

JDM

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner. It's the fuel pump. It pressurizes the system prior to starting the car so it starts faster and easier. Eventually when the car is off the pressure will bleed away through the regulator back to the tank (in the front) so it re-pressurizes when you turn on the key. Most cars do this (very few dont).

It should only last a few seconds, not like a minute or anything tho...
