Cruise control doesn't work

My cruise control has seemed to stopped working again. Two years ago it stopped working and replacing the switch on the clutch did the trick. I know there is a switch on the clutch and brake. The green light comes on when i activate the cruise, but cruise doesn't work. Is there anything else that would cause it not to work or did the switch go bad that fast? The brake lights all work, so i wouldn't think it would be that switch. Thanks.

Replace the brake switch. It has multiple contacts inside. The ones for the brake light circuit can be good and the contact feeding the cruise controller not working.

HHHHmmmmm..I never thought of that. I have the same issue except the green light comes on, and when I try to set a speed, the green light will shut itself off a second or so later, and the car will not cruise/I cannot reactivate the green light until I restart the car.

Ill check the switch operation tonight

OK thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. I also heard that if any of your outside lights are out the cruise won't work. Not sure if that is true or not, something to check I guess.

My cruise would work for about 45-60 minutes then suddenly dis-engage. The dash indicator would stay lit. You could get it to re-engage at random for a totally random amount of time. Replaced the clutch and brake switches and it has worked perfectly, especially over 3000 miles of highway driving on vacation a couple of weeks ago.

Cleaning the brake switch did not work for me. Ill try the clutch switch tonight.

Tommy, interestingly enough I did modify my brake light circuit, but that is only for the night time lights, not the brake lights. I didnt touch those or modify them.

All my brake lights work. I did have a tail light out. I've since replaced it, the cruise still does not work. I will clean both brake and clutch switches tomorrow to see if that helps. If it doesn't I will see if one of my Porsche buddies will let me swap switches with them. His cruise works fine.

Ok, I took both switches out and cleaned them. Getting the brake switch back in place was a pain in the rear. I ended up getting it lined up and turning the switch with a Cresent wrench. Well the cruise works now. We will see for how long. I think i'll order a couple of new ones just in case.

No my green light always stayed on, even when the cruise didn't work. Maybe it does have something to do with your brake lights?

Still learning my 99 Boxster. Tried cruise control for the first time. Green light came on, however, when I pushed the lever forward to set the speed, nothing happened. It felt as if the lever just moved forward and sprang back. Should I feel something different in the lever when it engages cruise control? Or am I just not operating the system correctly. Re-read the directions in the owners manual several times. HELP!

There's a switch that engages when the clutch is all the way out. That has to be adjusted perfect and working. That was my issue. Light stayed on but no set speed.

My '97 takes a while to activate. It's been a while, but I'd guess between 10 and 20 seconds before it engages. I only use it on the e-way on long trips so it's not an issue for me.

20 seconds seems long. Maybe it's 10-15.

My cruise control has worked perfect since I cleaned and adjusted the switches. It also engages instantly, no 10 to 20 second delay. One important note i forgot to mention before. The brake switch wasn't seating fully in the bracket. If I turned it around an 1/8 of a turn backwards, then it seemed to be more sturdy. It has worked for over 30,000 miles since I last messed with it.
