Surprisingly not! I don't know how young people get their first home these days. My first house cost $22K and now it's hard to find anything worth having under $250K.

Hell $250k might buy you a POS 1 bd/bath condo in a crappy area in San Diego
The median price is currently $557k

Then again, we don't have Moose running around the city either
no snow, just 260+ days of sunshine and ave temp of 70 F

Wow, that's one of the reasons I'd have a hard time leaving Oklahoma City. Moderate weather most of the year and the fact I paid less than $200,000 for a two story house on the lake. The typical "first house" here runs in the $80,000-$120,000 range (which seems outrageous to me considering 10 or 12 years ago it was nearly half that). It's cheaper to have a decent house in a nice area than to rent an apartment in most cases.

I also forgot, no tornadoes or hurricanes either, just a rare earthquake once in a blue moon

Not to mention deer, bear, coyote, extremely large racoons, and the occasional cougar.

If they're smart they'll pour their income into better performing assets, put a lid on their housing costs, avoid all forms of debt and invest heavily in U.S. corporate wealth so that their investment horizon is as long as possible using the maximum contribution they can bear. Thanks to the securtization chain the days of getting rich from your house are long gone for most worker bees...those who live in zip codes with rising incomes different story.. but their local taxing authorities will have their hands in their pockets soon too.

And you have plenty of water, not too many people or very much traffic, no crime and low taxes, right? And those rare earthquakes are never very big are they ?

The tornadoes do suck, but then there's all that!
