All of the Boxsters built after '99 are soulless constructions of cold steel/aluminum and ez-scratch plastic. Base 2.7, S 3.2.... 'Meh.

Okay, does anyone call a 911 Carrera a 'base' 911, or a non S of any other Porsche a 'base'?

No, they don't call them base.
IIRC, with the introduction of they Boxster S, they started to refer to the 2 models as Base and S

My 99 is a not-S. Haha. I do have to admit, if I ever get a newer Boxster or a different Boxster, it will be an S. Or, I'll bit the bullet and find a Honda S2000. I bought the BOxster because it cost me 1/2 as much as the Honda S 2000. And I don't regret my purchase, my 99 has been reliable, head turning, and a pleasure to drive. THe previous owner(s) put a handful of extras into it that set it apart for any of the other 3 or so Boxsters here in the Durango, Pagosa area of Colorado. I look for excuses to take her for a ride.

(( or maybe I'm embarassed I drive a boxster and not a 911 at all and we're all actually just hair dressers))

We need a strong and fair scoring system to figure out which is the best boxster.
Let's see, max possible score is 100.

For color, black is 25 points, Everything else is 1 point
for model year, 2003 is 25 points, everything else is 5
and of course, S is 50 points. (this may be scored too low)

As I happen to drive a black 2003 S (yes, that's right, S!) looks like my "S" happens to get 100 points, and all you other poor saps (even those with a non black lowly base) can sort out whatever your miserable scores may be.
Did I mention I drive an "S"?

			It's a materialistic class system.
So the 911 is a higher class then the lowly Boxsters
So within our peasant Boxster class we still need a pecking order, S vs Base - 981 vs 87,86 - 987 vs 986
I didn't write the rules , that's just the way it is.
My 4 door car is the lowest level Kia Optima. I just can't understand why anyone would buy a higher level Optima. It's a Kia Optima for Pete's sake
But I absolutely love that I can get 36-38 mpg with 5 people and a full trunk and their warranty

But fortunately, while I may be on the bottom of the Kia Optima class, at least I have a Boxster S. Did I mention I HAVE A BOXSTER S, not a boxster base
Oh I would give my first born to get up to the 987 S class
Oh and I think black is only 24 points. Seal Grey is 25. So a 2003 S Seal Grey = 100. Jamesp you come in at 99. Sorry, maybe you can get it repainted and move up a class

It's great to see everyone here has a sense of humour. (yes HUMOUR), I'm Canadian and we speak the King's English up here in the frozen north.

Point is, we all love our Boxsters; 986, 987, 981, Base, S, GTS, Spyder, stock, modified, track car, garage queen, daily driver or whatever.

There is no more fun on four wheels with 2 seats then there is in a Boxster. Any variant.

"S" or non "S" does make a difference when identifying certain things, but I do see some people point it out on bit that make no real difference~
I like my current Boxster because it does not have an "S" badge on the back, just a plain jane "Boxster" emblem~

Which makes it all the better when I STOMP THEIR ASS WITH MY V8 CAR BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!

Was just looking at the Chevy crate motor page again last week... I think a new LT1 motor in a Boxster would be pretty sweet~

Would be interesting to see which is faster... I've got ya by 20 HP
