no the Base is the basic and the S, well what word comes to mind......
Sport
Super
Superior
Super-duper
Special
Spectacular

And by the way, Arctic Silver is 25 points , 2004 50 points and S is 50 points, so a 2004 Arctic Silver S is 125 out of 100

.... :(

(I traded in my fancy badging and it's extra ego horse power for a sexy rear deck lid and 5 more mpg)

(( or maybe I'm embarassed I drive a boxster and not a 911 at all and we're all actually just hair dressers))

I have a similar lapis blue deck lid on my 3.2 Boxster (notice I didn't say S). No badge from the factory.

I'll go further and defend the identification of a car as an S beyond tech advice.

We are all analytical German car owners. We're mostly detail oriented people. Even if someone is just talking about getting their key fob fixed, I tend to care about their car and the details involved.

There are so many varieties within boxsters that I always like to learn how each forum members car is different.

The colors, who has an s (or a "u"? [sic]), who has a tip, who has this option or that option.

It's all interesting and in an enthusiast setting (particularly for Porsche German cars) the details matter a lot! If you take offense to someone having an option on their box that you don't then this isn't the place for you.

I comment frequently about my S ("U"? [sic]) and the 2.5 I used to own. Particularly when people are asking on what car to buy I'll leave my impression of both.

The good thing is one isn't always better than the other. Same as how a tip has its benefits to a manual so does a 2.5 to a 3.2.

And even better, they are each good for their own reasons. A 2.5 has a more exotic exhaust note and provides a more classic feel (particularly on 16s!.) while an S on 265 rear 18s is going to be an entirely different dynamic that is better in different situations.

Happy motoring, I never felt inferior when I had a base, and never feel superior now that I have an S ("U"? [sic]).

The only time that I do get a little pissy is when I see a highly modded boxster in public that is made to look like an S but has only 2 radiators up front. That's not cool.

So... you sure your Boxster is German? Not Finnish? Just curious about the details. ;)

It's possible. They sure did build many in Finland, with some reportedly being built in Stuttgart. I think my previous 987 was from o'er dere in Finland.

Porsche’s Finnish success story: 227,890 Boxsters and Caymans

I wonder which plant has/had greater IMS success rates...?

JayG 09-28-2015 01:38 PM

Definitely born in Germany

Can someone help me find the covers for the stem valves of the rear tires for my 2003 Boxster S:D

Sorry, couldn't help myself

Single row IMSB = -100 points.

What's your score now? :p

cfos 09-29-2015 03:13 PM

Is it a German or Finnish 2003 Boxster S?

NewArt 09-29-2015 03:47 PM

Finnish S valve caps are green while German S caps are Black. All base model valve caps are black. That's why there's so much confusion!

Oooooooooooo

You know this is why the 2000 year model boxster S definitely gets the most points right...particularly if you have something like a hard too or retrofitted glass rear window to fix the main downside of the earlier cars....

Also it's got a bigger bore motor than a carrera S...
