Oil pressure relief valve cap torque
 

Okay I am changing oil tomorrow and am going to install the new upgraded oil pressure relief valve from Pelican. Searched here the inter web and the marginally helpful Bentley manual but can not find one mention of the torque value for the cap. Anyone know? I have a new gasket and will use anti-seize on the threads. TIA. :cheers:

Are you referring to PN: 997 107 125 01 and PN: 996 107 127 53? (The oil piston and spring.)
If so, the bolt should be torqued to 18ft/lbs (or 25Nm).

Thanks rick3000! You're a gentleman and a scholar. That's exactly the right parts. I had guestimated between 14-16 but couldn't find anywhere. Thanks.

No problem. It's super easy to do, just make sure you have a replacement crush washer, and a catch bucket. The oil comes out very quickly.

FYI, the torque setting is from the 986 workshop manuals. The PDF's floating around online are not very reliable, but sometimes they are the only place with obscure information like this.

rick3000 got 2 new crush washers. The difference between aftermarket and Porsche was 75 cents, so hey buy OEM right! Well they had to come from Germany instead of the 25 cent ones that they had in stock. But hey as I suggested to Pelican in their survey, wait till the entire order is in before shipping. 5 days later and now I'm ready.:rolleyes: Will change tomorrow and will have UOA done by CAT. Once all done I'll post results from filter inspection with Filtermag.

Guess I'm going to have to find a workshop manual now!

Following up I changed the engine oil and the oil pressure relief piston and spring today. The old spring and piston were fine, bolt has wear from the spring. New improved piston has the bevelled top.
