Bucket list cars
I'm not trying to offend anyone, but curious as to what car you would want if the Boxster was not available. I like my 2002 a lot and have had many great drives, moments and compliments. I believe it the most fun I have had with a car in my life. I have enjoyed every thing from learning to work on it and do a lot of my own maintenance. Just curious as to what's on others wish list, thanks for looking.

Came very close to buying a 1988 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 coupe black/black.Mostly unloved series but a great driver over the 328 due to the longer wheel base and overall length.
Lots of Connelly leather. Great indy service at nearby Dallas.
Would have purchased the car if our jobs at work had not blown up.Less than $30,000 in 2006.

White Lamborghini Countach.

Dare to dream big. I have always favored an early 2000's Aston Martin. Either a Vanquish or DB9.

I've driven Porsches for over 30 years, and while I've owned a few other interesting cars; Audi's, BMW's and VW's in my younger days, Porsche has and will always be what gets my blood stirring. I have a great admiration for many different cars, but most in reality would just be a passing affair of ownership.
I have a pretty extensive collection now, and there are only a few cars left on my list that I'd really want to own long term:
A newer 911 variant - either a 996 GT3 or a turbo 996 or 997. The 996 GT3 is getting more expensive and collectible by the minute, while the turbo cars are still in the realm of affordability for me - at least for awhile. It won't be long and the 996 turbo will start climbing in price and collectability too.
I like the idea of a Cayman, but I'm not sure I'd like it more than the cars above.
Other than something from above, I'm pretty happy with what I have. I know I'm pretty lucky to have what I do.

I have owned multiple air cooled porsches, MG's, TR6, Pantera, Lotus Europa and even a Fiat X1/9! The car that always has gotten my heart beating faster is the Ford GT 40.

By today's standard they aren't all that anymore but still very desirable. They are starting to hit the 25 year mark so we can finally bring them into the U.S.
For me pretty much any Porsche sports car is a dream car for me.

Damn, Jake, that is one long list. Fortunately, you're young and with your intelligence and drive you may be able to afford several of those!
My list is short and realistic. I want to get a 993 cab.... again.
Dreamed for may years of getting a 1968 Camaro Z28, but that ship, sadly, seems to have sailed.

Although it goes against every rational financial instinct ingrained in my DNA (I never buy new) I regret two things... selling my very modified first gen Miata after much work had been done to it, and not buying a 997 GT3. I would have been very happy to have owned those two cars at once, one take the brunt of abuse the other to make the pain of depreciation a little more tolerable. As for bucket lists, I've really begun to fixate on the new Z06 this is an amazing car.
As far as "dream car", which I consider to be car that would constitute an extremely foolish use of my capital no matter how wealthy I may become, I'd say that would have to be an F430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale or Aventador Roadster. After owning either of those three I might as well drive a Yaris because anything else would be a let down.

Buying ANY car goes against financial smarts. Buying a car is all about the emotion and pride of ownership.
Cost of car+gas+insurance+maintenance+repairs+parking+misc = way more than simply taking a taxi and public transport (in any semi-major populated area). I've actually seen research showing you could use a car service (with driver) for cheaper! Anyways, I digress.
For me.....I still want the Magnum Ferrari! I'd even bring back the 'stache!

^ having used Uber quiet a bit recently I'm inclined to agree that it would be cheaper than owning a car. You could just rent a car for long trips where Uber drivers are not to be found and still come out ahead of ownership. But I don't think that takes away from the case that buying a new car is perhaps the worst option and may cost you dearly down the line if owning new cars is heavily cutting into your savings/investment.
