Boxster - A Family Car

Since I have two young children, my friends and family gave me alot of crap about buying a car with only two seats. So I took some pictures to show them how the whole family can fit in the car for a cruise. Thought I would share them b/c it's kinda funny.

Now I understand why they would put internal releases on trunks the size of the Boxster's..

Your son looks thrilled with the arrangement...your daughter, not so much. She appears to be lamenting the lack of a spare tire.

Good stuff

Great pics! I was in the same situation, with 19 month old everyone was on my case about the car, and now everyone wants to drive it!

i'll add, that everyone loves to gawk and chat when I'm either cruising with my 6 yr daughter or 2 1/2 yr old son in the car with the top down! They love the chance to have spin in 'daddy's car' - but it's still a bummer that we can't all cruise out the beach or even out for a nice evening cruise. however, it also keeps my wife from swindling the car for a day with the kids - big difference in how she takes car of her car and i take care of mine!!!!!

That is awesome.

I have my first one on the way and the "Outsiders" are throwing weekly hints that I need to have a "Family Car".

Those pics prove the Boxster IS a family car.

I love it.

Thanks for the ammo.

Thanks for the compliments on the pics! The funny part is the Boxster is our third car (Summer car only), so I shouldn't really be getting crap at all. I guess once you have kids you're supposed to drive a minivan.

I actually purchased the car at a Chrysler dealer and I brought the kids with when I went to the dealer to test drive it. Right as I walked in the door the salesman said, "So you're in the market for a minivan". Nice! Needless to say he was surprised when I asked for the keys to the Boxster.

My next upgrade is to add the airbag deactivation, so at least I can install a car seat and bring one of them out for a ride once in awhile.

KRZTACO, congrats on being a Dad soon. You will love it.

I haven't done much of the research either. My understanding is the dealer can install it for around $500, but I still need to price it out locally. For the 987, there is a key spot inside the passenger side door that allows you to activate or deactivate the airbag with your ignition key. That's about all I know at this point.

I have two young children. An 8 and 5 year old girls. In my 2006 987S the airbag turns-off as soon as they sit in the car! You don't need a de-activation kit for the 2006 model year.

the 05 987 requires the deactivation kit, which is rougly $600 installed. igniition key turns airbag off and on - small light on center console anterior to parking brake lights up when off. works with any car seat (no more bar thing that needs to be attached). don't waste your money on the Porsche car seat, unless you're dying to have it cuz it has the logo on it. Britax makes the seat for Porsche and the same model sold ala Britax is much cheaper. Recaro also makes a very nice and incredibly well rated car seat!

06 is automatic to sense weight in the passenger seat and deactivates under ~100lbs.

your kids will love it! my daughter wants the top down even on a chilly night! thank god she's only 6 and not 16!!!!

what?! why would Porsche give that away free - that's almost $1000 for both the kit and the seat? was it free day at Porsche Alabama? can i have their number to see if they would like to donate a short shift kit or aero kit for my 987?

I'll ask today when I pick my car up (It's in the shop for a cracked coolant tank...go figure). I'll keep you posted.
